New and Upcoming Releases

Cecelia Holland -Author Guest Post and Giveaway!

Tuesday, August 3, 2010

Ceclia Holland, author of the just released The Secret Eleanor, was kind enough to provide me with some of her thoughts on the "it" girl of the year - Eleanor of Aquitaine.

Eleanor of Aquitaine lived at center stage all her life, so when I started writing a novel about her the hardest part was coming up with something different and fresh. Fortunately she is a great character, endlessly growing and changing: the headstrong and lusty Eleanor of her first marriage and the crusade matures into the hard-headed and ambitious and splendid queen who dominates the second half of the twelfth century. In THE SECRET ELEANOR I try to catch her at the crux of this change, when she leaves her first husband and marries her second.

There's a wealth of data for this nine-month period, and wonderful stuff it is, too, pomp and progress, escapes down the river and through the forest, above all, a woman determined to make her own life, in a time when women, some believed, didn't even have souls. I loved writing this book; I think Eleanor is still a great model for all women, especially those who cannot abide the ordinary.

I want to thank Cecelia for taking time out of her busy schedule to provide us with a few insights into her new book.  Now for the giveaway part - if you would like to read The Secret Eleanor, please complete the below form by midnight Tuesday, August 10, 2010.  One winner will receive a copy of the book directly from the publisher (US residents only, sorry...).  After the winner is selected, they will have 48 hours to provide me with their mailing address or a new winner will be chosen.  Good luck!

Please note:  a few hours after this was posted I changed the method of entry from leaving a comment to completing the below form.  If you left a comment, don't worry - you'll still be entered!

This book sounds great. I like that Eleanor's sister, Petra, has a role to play. Thanks for the giveaway.
