Although Elizabeth Chadwick's next book - The Lady of the English - is set for release in the UK in a few weeks, it won't be available in the US until September 1, 2011. It looks like Sourcebooks has gone with a different cover than the UK version - which do you prefer?

About the book: Royal wives and royal widows, Queen Adeliza and her stepdaughter, Empress Matilda, are the only two women to be titled "Lady of the English," a title that does not come cheap. Adeliza, widowed queen and peacemaker, is married to a warrior who supports Stephen, grandson of the Conqueror. Matilda, daughter of the last king and a fierce fighter, is determined to win her inheritance against all odds and despite all men, including Stephen. Both are women who, in their different ways, will stand and fight for what they know is right. But for Matilda, pride comes before a fall. And for Adeliza, even the deepest love is no proof against fate.

Defiantly the UK one here. Mostly because it is about queens and the UK one has a crown. The sourcebooks one does not look very queenly to me. Thank you for sharing.

I prefer the UK cover it simply looks better. I also can't wait to read Queen by Right which I have ordered from Amazon.
Just for my own information have you ever read anything from Taylor Caldwell? She was an excellent writer, up there I believe with Edith Wharton, but I rarely hear her mentioned or her books.
Good reading

I also prefer the UK cover. She looks much more like I would expect Matilda to look. I think that top one looks more like Adeliza.

I like the US edition better. I prefer the colours and although the woman on the UK cover does have a crown, she looks to me like she's saying, "Who messed up this kitchen?"

I like the design of the US cover better but wish the woman on it appeared a little more regal.

I like the colors of the UK book better, but I think the US cover would catch my eye more in a book store.

So I'm going to be the odd man out and say I prefer the US cover. I'm more drawn to it, but I do agree with most that I wish the lady looked more regal perhaps a faded crown on her head.

I like the US one better too.

Lol, oh dear, I live in the UK but I prefer the US cover! In the UK cover the woman looks too posey, and also her costume is completely inaccurate for the time period - so to me it looks hackneyed and cringeworthy. The US coveron the other hand looks natural and I like the blend of colours.

As the author I love my UK cover. On the USA one the woman looks too modern and made up. She looks like an assistant at a beauty counter, not a medieval queen. The dress is far more inaccurate than the Uk cover and what's with the Italian village in the middle of her chest?
Actually I am utterly astonished to see this here as the cover. No one at Sourcebooks has told me. I actually rejected this one and they told me they were going to do a reshoot, so this is news to me!

I still like the UK cover.
Elizabeth - this is what they have in the catalog. Maybe they'll change it...??

Daphne, I have just had confirmation from my editor that this is not the cover they are using, but that there will be something totally different - thank goodness! I expect that they wanted something to put in the catalogue and the new cover wasn't ready in time.

That's good - I really didn't care for that one!
