Photo Friday - #29

During my short trip to London last summer I visited the Tower of London for the second time.  This time I was by myself so I was able to take my time.  It wasn't nearly as busy this time either - maybe it's because I went late in the day or maybe it was the clouds moving in over the Thames.  Both factors allowed me to get some great shots!

This has to be my favorite picture that I've ever taken.  When my husband first saw it he didn't believe it was actually a picture - but I swear it is!  I didn't even realize the way the tree was framing the Tower - I just did a "point and shoot".  I just wish that white scaffolding on the left wasn't there.

Close up of the pillow on the memorial to those executed at the Tower.  On my last visit, there was so many people around the memorial that it was hard to get some good close up shots.  That yellow spot on the pillow is a small leaf.

This cracked me up and was something I don't think was there on my first visit.  In the Bowyer Tower was an exhibit regarding the imprisonment and death of Edward IV's brother,  George Duke of Clarence.  Included in the exhibit are a small cell and the legendary barrell of malmsey wine in which he drowned.

I love your photos! The top photo is so beautiful and I didn't even notice the scaffolding. I made my first visit to the Tower the summer of 2010. I hope to return within the next few years and see all that I missed the first time around!

I hope I can go to England some day. You're right, the first picture almost looks like a model or something! The second is beautiful too, but the third creeps me out a bit!

Scaffolding is a tourist's nightmare! The first time Hampton Court was seen in person it was covered in sheeting!! I was SOOO disappointed. Now I e-mail the various sites to find out what is being re-worked. Doesn't stop me from visiting, but it does help alleviate the shock factor.

That is a beautiful shot of The Tower, however. Isn't it a treat to have a 'point and shoot' turn out so great?

I haven't been inside The Tower for six years...it's now realized there are so many different areas to enjoy.

What did you think of the crystal pillow? There was a bit of controversy when it first appeared.

Wendy - I think I could visit all these place numerous times and not see everything!

Amber - I do hope you get to go. It's everything I hoped it would be - and more!

Tracey - The first time I saw the memorial I thought the pillow seemed kind of strange - like, "here, let me give you a place to lie your head while I cut it off!". But this time - maybe because it was less crowded - it somehow seemed peaceful.

I'm not overly fond of the crystal pillow. It wasn't there when I visited in '01...perhaps I'll like it better when I actually see it.

LOVE the picture of the malmsey barrel! That is hysterical!
